I am currently a M.Div student at Vancouver School of Theology and a candidate for ordained ministry in BC Conference. I am a member at Bethany-Newton United Church in Surrey, BC. I have been a member of the United Church for about 10 years now. I come from various Evangelical traditions including: Christian and Missionary Alliance, Evangelical Covenant, Mennonite Brethren, and Canadian Southern Baptist.
I was born in South Korea and was adopted by Canadian parents. My cultural perspective is multicultural at its core. I have a passion for learning about other cultures and engaging with them. My ministry has been primarily focused on church planting. I feel my call is to bring together my church planting experience in Evangelical groups with the current situation of decline and renewal in the United Church of Canada. I am particularly interested in the evangelical streams in United Church theology and history especially the Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren streams of our denominational partners.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of this delegation. My perspective will be that of a student. I seek to learn from other delegation members and those we meet on the journey. I do not consider myself knowledgeable about either the United Church of Canada or Chinese Christianity. I am but a learner and a fellow traveler on the journey. I hope to bring my experience of China and learnings from Chinese Christians back to the multicultural ministry context here in Canada. As the United Church seeks visions of its possible futures, one future possibility is multicultural and intercultural ministries.
