My name is Jordan Cantwell. I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with my partner, Laura, and daughter, Hope. I was ordained in 2010 and have served a small rural congregation just southwest of Saskatoon for the past seven years. I am currently beginning a three year term as Moderator of the United Church of Canada. I have a passion for ecumenical relationships. I served on the Theology Inter-Church Inter-Faith Committee for six years, co-chaired our local Roman Catholic/United Church dialogue, and participated in the 2013 gathering of the World Council of Churches in Busan, South Korea. One of the things I am most excited about coming out of the recent General Council meeting is the new ecumenical agreements we have entered into with the United Church of Christ-USA, the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, and the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea. My home presbytery is also in the process of developing a partnership with Incheon Presbytery in South Korea.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to join all of you on this delegation to China. We are so honoured to have been invited by the Church in China to visit them and explore the possibility of a deeper on-going relationship. I look forward to forging new bonds of friendship with Christians in a very different social, political and church context… we will learn so much from one another! I am also looking forward to getting to know all of you and working together to share this experience with our church in ways that will transform and enliven us.
